Carbs versus F.I.?

Hey all.. I'm pondering the positives & negatives of installing carbs in place of the K-Jetronic currently installed in my buddies '77 320i (E21). My past experience with carbs is that they are far easier to maintain and generally offer better performance: at least on modified aircooled motors...

What does the swap entail? Does it offer any performance benefits? I'm new to the Bimmer scene, and I'm doing most of the work on my friends newly acquired 320i.

Thanks in advance!

-greg

Suggestion

If you want your life to be easier hang on to the K-Jetronic, I own a 320/6
with a 4 barrel carb, it's very fast, but difficult to tune, to repair and drinks loads of gas. But..it's just beautiful.
