hairline scratches in gauges plastic
Hi, I have some really fine scratches in the clear plastic of my gauges. I am trying to make my car basically perfect with no defects so I want to get rid of them. Is there anyway to rub the scratches out? I was thinking of some rubbing compound. My mom suggested wax might temporarily get rid of them. It might last a while. Any other suggestions though?

Re: hairline scratches in gauges plastic
My car isn't anything worth bragging about by any means. It is just a basic aurora. Nothing fancy. Everything's stock (except the remote starter). Someday, when I have some extra cash (which right now sounds like a dream), I want to deck out the car and tint the windows, after market wheels, a kickin stereo, etc. But that is a far off dream. I can't afford that right now. It just has some quirks about it and I want to make the car drive like new. What needs to be done to it is I need to get new struts and brakes. I have to worry about the necessities first before I spend money on the extras. But the interior is perfect. I fixed all of the electronics to work perfect. The traction control works now. I replaced all of the burnt out lights in my dash so everything lights up right. Little things like that. I also have a few rattles in my dash that I am trying to hunt down lately. That's getting frusturating.

Re: hairline scratches in gauges plastic
I've seen some scratch remover stuff at Wal-Mart and the like meant for plastic and/or glass eyeglasses and such. Maybe one of those would do the trick as well.

Blue Coral makes a polish for plastic windows in convertible tops as well as plexiglass. It's a good product. I use it on my headlights, bug deflectors, trim pieces, etc. ALSO... if you have any aluminum clearcoated wheels with the white haze from using various wheel cleaners, this product hides the haze marks, I'm not lying. I used it on my factory Ford wheels on my Expedition as a last resort. I was ready to re-polish the wheels and have them re-clearcoated until I used the plastic polish. They now look like new! It makes sense that it would work seeing how the clearcoat is a "plastic" coating.
