good deal? and I have some questions about FCs

Alright...I just checked out an RX7...it has 18" rims (yes I know they are a bit big, but they look really nice and they aren't ricey in appearence)...it also has a dual exhaust...otherwise I think it's completely stock. It's $1800 obo and has 120k miles, 5 speed, supposedly last summer a new engine was swapped in, but I'm not sure though. What do you think of the price?

And now for some questions...

I know the FCs g0t about 15-20mpg new, but what about a used one that's now 15+ years old? I have what you would call a "spirited" driving style...I don't usually beat on the car, but I definitely let the revs get up there from time to time.

What should a rotary in good condition sound like? Also any trouble spots to look for..specifically what should the exhaust emissions look like (does it normally run rich?)...etc...

Lastly, What kind of 1/4-mile and 0-60 times can I expect from her? One website said the auto n/as are a little over 10 seconds 0-60...what about the manuals? 1/4 mile times probably in the 16 second range? How much effect will the cat back dual exhaust that's on it have with those numbers?

I've researched about rx7s some...I just would like some clarification. I love the car and I hope to get it...Starting out with this (or another fc) or an older s13 to get used to rwd and the basics of drifting, oversteer, driving in snow, weight transfer, etc...then I'm moving up to a gen2 mr2 turbo once I have the money...

Re: good deal? and I have some questions about FCs

what year and model is the car? is it in good condition?

you can expect 17-20 if its a non-turbo, 15-17 if its turbo

check the numbers on the engine and the car to see if they are the same... if they are the same then it isn't swapped, if its different it is.. that still won't tell you when it was done but atleast you'll know if it was swapped or not

its not good for it to run rich

stock non-turbos run like 15.9-16.1 in the 1/4 mile, the go 0-60 in around 7 seconds(this is all for the 89-91 models) the 86-88 models might be a tiny bit slower

a cat back won't be a huge difference... if you upgrade it all from the headers out and put in an intake you'll get a nice gain though

if you give more specifics or have more questions let me know

Well that's right at the edge of what I want in terms of performance and since it can corner really well and that's only what it does stock then I think I'm still considering it...fuel economy isn't as bad as I expected...my friend had one and he was telling me he got 6-8mpg lol...

How about cold weather starting? I live in maine and I will most likely drive this in the winter unless I can aquire a beater (doubtful since I'm saving up for another project car while paying for this one)...I know rwd is a pain in the ass in large amounts of snow, but with decent snow or all season tires I think I'll be fine...I see a lot of mustangs and older 240s in the winter and they aren't wrapped around a tree...

Any areas I should look at specifically for wear?...I know rust can be an issue in the wheel wells and rockers...but it seems to be free of that.

Re: good deal? and I have some questions about FCs

mine starts all winter fine here in kansas, and it handles better than I thought it would acctually
just go slow and be easy on the gas

oh and as for rust, check the exhaust, mines all rusty but its stock so with that one being newer it might be ok... but you said its only a cat back right? if so check for rust on the stock parts

pretty sure its a cat back...i mean it could be a full exhaust, but by the looks of the car i think the owner was on a budget and only purchased things for asthetics really...like the big tires...luckily there is a lot of tread left...
