91 CROWN VIC 3 PROBLEMS hELP!!!!!

i HAVE A 91 CROWN VIC WITH 3 PROBS IT IS AN 5.0 V8 351 WITH PERFORMANCE DUAL EXHAUST AND GLASS PACKS

1.CAR WONT TAKE OVER 3 DOLLARS OF GAS IT SPITS AS IF THE TAKE IS FULL WHAT COULD BE WRONG AND THE CAR IS CARBURATED.

2.THE CAR WONT TURN OVER EVER SINCE THE TRANSMISSION LINE LEAKED BUT I THINK IT IS THE GAS THING BECAUSE IT WANTS TO TURN BUT WILL NOT FIRE AND WHEN IT BROKE DOWN IT DID BACK FIRE. AND THE GROUND ON THE BATTERYWAS BAD ONCE BEFORE BUT THE ENGINE TURNS BUT WONT FIRE.

3. HOW DO I KNOW IF THE TRANS IS BAD IF THE CAR WONT START CAN I TELL IF I PUT THE CAR IN ACCESS AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE OR PARK.

Re: 91 CROWN VIC 3 PROBLEMS hELP!!!!!

one if it is a 5.0 it is a 302 not 351 just a little info. i cant help you with the first two problems but the only way to tell if a tranny is bad on a 91 Crown Vic is that the car will not shift into any gears. And check the fluid if it is a dark redish brown color than it is burnt and you would be able to smell if the fluid is burnt too.

5.8 engines

The 5.8l police engine is extremely reliable, first I would change the fuel filter in the carburator, yea thats right, the only fuel filter for that car is in the carburator. Next while you have the cap off where the filter goes, crank the engine and see if you have fuel spouting out the cap. If not time to check the fuel pump, which on the 5.8 is mechanical on the driver side of the engine behind the power steering pump.
If no fuel, 2 things, if the tranny lines rotted out, I would look at the fuel line and return line that run up the drivers side on the chassis rail, most common is the lines rot out between the front and rear doors, and where the lines go around the chassis rail and to the fuel pump. Another thing is I would verify that your gas tank is full of gas, not water, I don't know if this car was sitting for any lenght of time. If you have no fuel gauge indication that there is gas in the tank, you can try tapping on it with a screwdiver or some thing metalic, and see if it sounds full or not.
Now on to the trans, they do have their problems, but you shouldn't start to go there yet, untill you have the car running.
Also where are you located?
