Supercharging a GT

Hi there everyone I know this topic has already had some posts on different threads but I'm not sure if I really got a clear answer from it (being that I'm a newbie). I'm taking a 95 base model GT and I really want to know what a supercharger would do to it. I've only really found a tomas knight eaton supercharger which is like 3,500 and supposidly only ads like 60 HP? Does anyone here know of ne other super chargers or do u guys have ne other recommendations for me? Okay thanks for the help.

xxxrocker5150..........Van Halen fan by any chance? well rocker I was just discusing this with stealthmoddifier and yes the Thomas Knight Eaton is an option, it wont add 60hp though, it will give you 80hp at 6 1/2 PSI. Its a reliable unit but the rumor is that it dosent fit very well. I'm not clear as to where it dosent fit. some people have complained that it dosent bolt up to the engine very well, one guy on 3si said the hood wont close after its installed, no one is sure, the other option is the RIPP mods Vortec unit, its gonna give you about 100HP more but you need alot more stuff to make it work, the kit brings new injectors and fuel regulator, BOV, and pulley relocating kit, also you need to buy new headers (not included) for it to work. is the 95 base a SOHC or DOHC? cause the RIPP SC for the DOHC is still in development. compared to a turbo the Supercharger delivers power faster bc it dosent need to spool up, so you will get one hell of a jolt off the line and your power will mostly be available at bottom to mid range rpms, fast take offs, fast acceleration. a turbo needs to spool up and can pproduce more power then a SC but it mostly delivers power at higher rpm range. turbos are more potent but a SC is easier to maintain and can be installed without having to change out your pistons and exhaust manifold.

Re: Supercharging a GT

I just took a look, it says the RIPP is only for the SOHC so i guess the eaton is my best bet...? Ne other suggestions I'm not gonna race this puppy too much btw, but I do need a fast car with good mileage (can't be late for classes).

Re: Supercharging a GT

turbo it.... u said something about having to change rods and pistons etc...thats usually if youre running above 5 -6 psi on a 1.6 honda or something. Most mitsu low compression engines can take a beating...research turboing it though.

true most mitsu low compression motors can handle a nice amount of boost. but he's running 10:1 compression. yeah he can still run a decent amount of boost safely and his car will be killer from a roll....but his gas mileage will drop off considerabley. there's enough n/a mods to make a dohc run low 14's. if u just want a lil extra kick i would just keep it n/a. for the money your gonna spend on a s/c or turbo...plus the same n/a mods you'll need. u might as well keep it n/a. if u dont plan on racing a lot its just a waste to spend that kind of money. n/a mods are exspensive enough

Hmm I thought I read somewhere on Knight's website that it took down the gas mileage 1 mile city and stayed the same highway... not sure on that though. Also I just remembered somthing that I thought I'd bring to topic, I'm not sure if i remember correctly but some guy in cali was selling like a 96' stealth tt on ebay motors a while back, and he supposidly had 800 hp max. He didn't say at the wheels or at the crank so I'm not sure on that one, however he said that he'd gotten it up to 180 mph and slowed down cuz he was putting the eyes through the back of his head... what do you guys make of it?

Re: Supercharging a GT

can an SL engnine compression ratio take a high psi such as 9 or 10 without blowing the motor from a single turbo kit?

u can run high boost with higher compression but it takes more caution, tuning, and money than running high boost on a lower compression motor. HOWEVER, if you do run high boost safely on high compression you will make more power. does that help?

High compression and boost dont mix, your car will have a life expectansy of about a year, seriously, I opened up a 6G72 from a friends stealth RT , he was running a single turboa at 7psi and stock internals....what a mess. do shit right, if your gonna put boost on a DOHC then use an SC, its faster and cheeper. you just gotta find the right shop to make it all work. as for RIPP, they are working on a DOHC kit.

Re: Supercharging a GT

Dont the SC's run around 7 psi as well? And is this RIPP SC gonna be the one to get?
