'92 325i sputtering, rough idle need help...

It started out as a rough idle, but I noticed that as the car got to normal operating temp, it would start to sputter and hesitate when accelerating. Now it does it right when you start it until it gets warm, but then soon after it reaches normal operating temperature, it starts again with the rough idle, and hesitation.

Also the check engine light would come on but go out as I was driving, but today it stayed on. I checked what the fault code readout was, and I am pretty sure that the code it was giving was "oxygen sensor control out of range" (1222) does this mean I need to replace the sensor or is it more than that?

Has anyone had similar problems? Did a new O2 sensor fix the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found out that 1222 is "Lambda Control #1"

Good Luck ! ! !

tried the O2 sensor, no luck. The car still hesitates once it reaches normal operating temperature. Also if I slow down, like at a stop light or stop sign, sometimes the RPM's will drop enough that the car dies. Now the check engine light has gone out but comes on and goes off erratically. It hasn't stayed on, so I can't check the codes. I at a loss now... Any Ideas?

you can also try removing the idle control valve and clean the contacts, its located under the fuel rail , cylindrical in shape with hose on each end. worth a try, try the cheapest and easiest ways first. good luck.

Will try that, but seems that idle is not really the problem now, still hesitates and lunges when accelerating though. Thanks for the advice.
