2001 Camry CD_player in a 98 Camry

Hi, Can I fit a 2001 cd_player in a 98? If it can be done will all the plugs in the back of the radio be the same as the 98?

Regards,
Seahawk

The plugs are identical...you will have no problems with fitment whatsoever.

Hi, yotatechie04
Thanks a lot, now I will get a 2001 CD player from EBay for my 98 camry. Helpfully it will read CDR music cds; cause the one I got with the 98 won't read CDR most of the time.

Regards,
Seahawk

Re: 2001 Camry CD_player in a 98 Camry

seahawk98,

We have the 3-in-1 radio (radio, CD and cassette all in one double-din unit) in our 98 XLE. It plays all of our cdr's. We also have an aftermarket Panasonic 8 disc changer mounted in the trunk that is controled by the factory radio and it too plays all of our cdr's. You might want to try one of those lens cleaning things on your factory radio first.

Good luck.

Mike

You could clean it, but if you do decide to replace it, you should try and burn your CDs at a lower speed for better quality to avoid future difficulty.

Hi, Mike
I got the factory in dash 3 disc changer (Toyota L4210 CD player), for some reason it plays all other normal CDs fine excepts when it comes to CDRs. I believe the lens is clean; otherwise it would not be able to play any CDs at all I think. I have tried burning it at 4x, 8x, and 24x with no success of playing it with the Toyota L4210 CD player.

Seahawk

Re: 2001 Camry CD_player in a 98 Camry

seahawk98,

I have the L4200 3-disc changer in my 94 Camry. It too plays all of my cdr's. I think the L4200 is just an older version of the one you have. There is definitely something wrong with your unit. Again, try cleaning the lens. By the way, I believe these units were actually made for Toyota by Alpine. They use a standard Alpine 3 disc magazine. I just thought I would mention the fact they are Alpine units just in case you need to get it repaired at some place.

I would also suggest you try your cdr's in a friend's car and also try some of that friend's cdr's in your car's player. That way you can pinpoint whether it's your car's player or the way your cdr's are being burned that is causing the problem.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the information. Can you please tell me what is the brand and model of the CDRs that you use to burn your CDs? And what type of software you use to burn them on your PC. Hopefully I can get it to work since it's working for you.

Regards,
Seahawk

Re: 2001 Camry CD_player in a 98 Camry

seahawk98,

I have been burning cd's for about 5-6 years. I have several hundred of them. I have mostly used Verbatum cdr's but have also used Memorex and Samsung. I have rarely, if ever, had any problems with any of them. I am currently using Easy CD Creator version 4.0 but have used older versions of Easy CD Creator. My first burner, years ago, came with NTI CD-Maker. All have worked equally well. Since I have been burning cd's for a long time, I started to burn back then at speeds of 2X or 4X. I rarely burn at speeds higher than that today. If I have plenty of time I still burn at 2X. I would suggest you try to burn one cdr at 2X and see if it plays in your car.

Good luck.

Mike

Re: 2001 Camry CD_player in a 98 Camry

seahawk98,

Have you tried a CDR burned by someone else (not burned by your computer using your current software) in your car's player? That will tell you whether it's the player or you computer (or software) that is causing the problem.

Re: 2001 Camry CD_player in a 98 Camry

You must be burning either mp3's or the wav format in which only one of either format, your cd player does not recognized. Check your player and see if it read's mp3's.
