Can someone help me out here!! I see so many people with SR swaps and no one can give me a good answer to my question!! How hard is it/is it possible to legalize and SR 240 or Sil-80 (made using a 240 for the base)???? I mean, is it as simple as putting on a new O2 sensor and new cat? Or does the simplicity of it change with after market parts? I really don't mean to sound like too much of a n00b, but I am getting a 240 as my first car, whether I do an SR swap or not!! THANX in advance to anyone who can help me out/not flame me!!

Re: Non-Skyline legalization question!?!?!?!
Theres alot of stuff you can do to pass emissions and crap. I dont know what they are, because i dont have to deal with them. Thank you stupid TN laws! If you look around though, ive seen it on this forum like about 150,000 times. So youll run across it sooner or later.

Re: Non-Skyline legalization question!?!?!?!
depends are where you live. If you have to smog your car where visual test is needed, you will fail. The motor is pretty much illegal in those states. There are ways around smog, but it isn't an issue about legalizing. You can't legalize the motor without paying a lot of money and time. It is easier just to go around the smog issue. The motor can pass smog without issues, it will fail in visual tests.

Re: Non-Skyline legalization question!?!?!?!
to fully legalize you have to do the crash testing...usually 5 cars are needed I believe. Thing is a 240sx is not much different than the skyline when you consider that (plus the fact skylines are done really).
Add that to the fact that rather than pay, many just will swap a $2k engine and risk it. I am doing KA-T, I have had my share of chancing the law and getting nailed. Although there have been many times I have gotten away with that, a car I have $10,000-20,000+ into is not a risk I'd like to take until I have an additional zero on my paychecks or at least yearly. |

Easy
Go to a local shop and ask what the emisions standards are for NJ Ask the Specifics... like if you put in a new engine would it pass and so on. Then when you get your donor car get it registered and passed. then do your swap. That should give you a year before you got to re-up. At that point find a friendly shop who are willing to stretch what needs to be stretched in order to pass. It may cost a bit more but that's the price you pay. If nothing else research the emission laws in the states around you if NJ is too restrictive and have a friend let you use their address to register. This is illeagle and will require a trip back to the state in question once a year but hey. To pass most emmisions you can just thin your mix but it really deppends on if they do vissual or not.
