how many rpm's can a toyota engine take?
does anyone have an idea of how many rpm's a toyota engine, mainly the 2tc, can take without going ca-boom! i got spun out in a race and got sent through the grass and missed a shift and took it up to about 8500rpm and it didn't even make a noise. so i was just wondering.

I believe you are referring to the 2TC, 1600cc pushrod engine found in 1971-1980(ish) rear wheel drive Corolla's? The good old 2TC engine was a fantastic engine.
This will date me but I ran a Corolla with a highly modified 2TC in the Pro Rally series back in the late 70's, that engine would redline at 10,500 rpm but that was with EXTENSIVE internal modifications, polishing, and custom parts. Stock they wil turn about 7,000 before valve float, occational overreving like what happened to you will not cause any damage unless a valve touches the piston because of valve float.
