Transmission - 1995 SL1

Not too long ago I started noticing that whenever the car was warmed up and I would go from reverse to drive or drive to reverse, it started taking more time. Sometimes up to 2-3 seconds. I also noticed a slight hitch when it is shifting (auto). I have called around and Saturn tells me it is either the input shaft (loose bolts) or a bad valve body. The input shaft is $300 and the valve body is $7-800.

I asked them what were the odds of one versus the other and they said 50-50.

Any thoughts on all this. I have 115K miles on it. Thanks in advance!

Len

Re: Transmission - 1995 SL1

this is quite common for saturns. most of the time if it is just reverse its the valve body, if its reverse and drive gears then its the input shaft nut.

do a search on the saturnfans.com forums for "reverse slam cure" (check the how-to by wolfman) and "input shaft nut"
