Climate Control Unit -- Noises
On My '97 Caravan, when the climate control (heater/ac unit) blower control is turned from off to any of the blower speed positions, a series of clicking/clunking noises (sounds like plastic on plastic) come from behind the glovebox. This occurs regardless of whether or not the engine is running or the air conditioning button is engaged. Presumably something is wrong in the mechanism that directs the heat or a/c air to the various dashboard ducts. How difficult is it to get to and replace or fix this unit?

When you switch from off to on, there will be a valve opening for circulation. You will hear the same thing if you switch to an other dashboard duct. That's normal on almost all cars with airco. Listen under the stearingwheel when you slide from hot to cold or visa versa....

No this is not normal, it just started, and the vehicle has 93,000 miles on it. It is very loud and pronounced. It goes on for about 10 seconds, then stops until the next time you start the vehicle or switch on the blower. It sounds like the valve you mentioned may be getting hung up on something and there is some kind of clutch that keeps slipping.
