Guage backlight color?

I was wondering if you can change the backlight color of the instrument cluster, a/c cluster and foglight control, on a 95 g/a se? Because the backlight is orange but in the day time its white, so i thought it might be a colored bulb behind them all. If it can be changed how do i go about removing my dash to get to them? If not does anybody know where i can get faceplates for the different parts to change the color to say, red?

im not sure how to remove the dash and all that. but on my 96, the gear indicator has clear bulbs with red lettering, whereas the power door locks have a colored bulb, well not a colored bulb but a bulb with a little rubber piece over it. so im not sure what your car may have. but that site has what you are looking for.

Re: Guage backlight color?

im not sure if you can...i think that the orange comes from a colored piece of plastic behind the panels and not the bulb. I do know that you can buy aftermarket replacement clusters which may come in different colors. i would suggst taking off the plastic molding and removing the heat controls and inspect it to find out. you would have to remove the top glovebox where the cupholders are, and the piece underneath the steering wheel, there is only a few screws for each, tehn i believe the heat control will pop right out

There are about 6 prongs that fit into holes to secure the dash, so with some force, the piece over the cluster should just lift off.

Re: Guage backlight color?

yeah im pretty sure its a colored piece behind the cluster like tom94gagt said. I would think you can remove it then just put a colored bulb in but you'll just hafta take it apart and check. If its possible that could turn out real sweet. Let us know.

Re: Guage backlight color?

well i took the whole dash apart, Found out that the a/c and foglight controls have a plastic film behind them that is impossible to get off, so I have to get the overlays, as for the speedometer and such, i couldn't get it open to look at it. It seems you need to take off the top part of the dash and i couldn't figure out how, there aren't any visable screws holding it down. But i have a guy that might make me a guage cluster in the future.
