Hi,
My wife owns a 99 integra and the AC recently gave out. When I say gave out I mean it still blows air but it's no longer cold. I live in Texas where it's very hot, so a working air conditioner is a must. I took the car to a Jiffy Lube thinking it might just be low on freon. The technician there said he flushed and refilled the system 3 times and couldn't get it to blow cold air. He also said that the air conditioner "motor" was not kicking in when it should be. He said you should be able to hear it kick in when you turn on the A/C system. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I'm going to take it into another mechanic, but I don't want to spend $1,000 to replace the air system. Is there any information that an Integra pro can arm me with before I go to the mechanic so that I will know if he's trying to con me. I have read that sometimes the drive belt can come lose and cause the AC to stop working. However, I don't know if "stop working" means no air at all or just no cold air but still some air flow? Any help will be apprecaited. thanks... |

Re: 99 Integra AC not working...
What part of texas do you live in? if you are anywhere by chance near fort worth i can recomend you to one of the best honda/acura mechanics around there. check the tension on the belt and make sure the belt is not loose or torn, thats the simple thing you can do. Next get a leak test on the system, they will put dye in the freon to see if its leaking, hopefully its just a small leak that can be fixed, if that seems fine it could be your compressor, which as stated above, can cost about 1K.
