01 Rodeo New Shocks - Great Improvement

Just got an 01 Rodeo - pretty rough at highway speeds and lots of vibration at the steering wheel. Many thanks to this forum! Put on Monroe Sensatracts and it rides great! A 14mm box end ratchet is worth its weight in gold! Job took about 1.5 hours. Next - the slip yoke

Yup, I've had my Sensatracts on for about 1.5 months now, and I love them!

THe steering wheel vibes have the wheels balanced, it helped mine out a ton.

Can't wait to put some on mine. The bouncing while towing my jetskis is very annoying. I'm just waiting for Monroe's "shocktober" buy 3 get 1 free event they have every year. Should be coming up here soon.

I have a '99 that needs new shocks. Is there a big advantage to the sensatracts over stock? Where did you order them from? Thanks. Rex

Re: Re: 01 Rodeo New Shocks - Great Improvement

I just got my 01 Rodeo a couple of weeks ago and got the info on the Sensatracs here on the forum. Got them at O'Reillys for 30 bucks each.
Did the job myself in about 1.5 hrs, a 14mm box end ratchet wrench is a must! The original shocks were all but completely shot at 59K, you can easily push and pull the piston and would stay where you left them. The new shocks made a huge and immediately noticeable difference in my ride, handling and ABS action. I'm sure there are other really good shocks but I went with the Sensatracs since they were highly recommended in this forum. It's a pretty easy job and would recommend that you do it yourself.

How much would you say they would take to install these? As much as I like working on the truck, Im not sure I have enough knowledge to do this and not screw it up

Mine did the nosedive under braking also, the new shocks made a huge difference, even helped the ABS from kicking in - I think because when braking hard on a rough road, the shocks keep the tires on the road not bouncing up off the road, the brakes instantanously locking up and causing the ABS to kick in

Re: Re: 01 Rodeo New Shocks - Great Improvement

Just call your dealer or service shop - i don't see how they could rip you off for more than 2 hours labor, but you'll probably pay more than the $30 each for the shocks i did. It's really a pretty easy job - you don't even need to jack up the truck, (unless a really big beer gut is involved) but a 14mm box end ratchet will save lots of time and blood.
