Hard Brake Pedel Rough Idle

I have recently pruchaced a use 95 S10 Blazer. It had some minor problems with all the power equipment that was taken care or except for a power mirror motor.

On the way to move my son into his college dorm in Austin the service engine light came on. As is the norm the car was running OK so we continued on the few remaing miles to Austin. Upon exiting the Interstate The brakes were ineffective an required a lot of effort to slow the car and my son barely avoided hitting the car in front of him. Doing so by tuning into another lane.

Now the brake as act as if there is no power boot and the idle is rough. The brakes seem to improve if the RPMs are held up by putting the car in neutral and depressing the gas as you come to a stop.

Looking for Ideas on the true failure. I am thinking EGR valve due to the rough idle and lake of brake boost. It could it be the vacuum booster?

The car is in Austin and I am not, so I am also looking for a good honest repair shop in Austin Texas if you have any recomdations.

Most likely the EGR has a piece of carbon stuck in the pintle causing your rough idle and low vacum problem...
i know a couple GM techs in texas...I'll see if 1 of them is near the Austin area

Thanks for the reply. I was leaning toward the EGR as the root cause of the problem.

Good luck and congradulations on the new addition

Re: Hard Brake Pedel Rough Idle

Just to close this thread, The problem was diagnosed as the EGR Valve. The Valve was replace, The intake cleaned by running clearners thorough the fule system and the oil was changed. The son say the truck is running fine
