KA life duration?

Hey guys, I just got a 91 240sx well being that it is a 91, it at has about 1300,000 miles on it. I'm pretty sure it will last me 165k+, but when the time comes for the engine to retire...what should I do? I respect both the KA's and the SR's so turboing the KA is something I'll probably do but I just don't like the feeling of having a pretty old engine. I could reinforce the internals on the KA I have now and turbo it, or I could get an SR, or is it possible to find a KA with really low miles on it? The RedTops and BlackTops are still at most 40k miles...Any helpful opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: KA life duration?

Finding a sub 100,000 Ka is hard to say the least. rebuilding it especially if you hone/bore it will make that bullet proof block good as new. SR's have less miles because of like emission milage laws or something like that. all said and done an SR will run you about 2500-3000 installed or you could rebuild your KA with all forged 800+hp interanal and add a turbo mani, FMIC, and prolly still have some money for head work. But my numbers could be off I dont know. just my newbie 2 cents

I'm finding a KA and rebuilding it but that is just me performance tuned KA will put out some nice long lasting power.

actually all SR's aren't that low mileage, I love how everyone assumes their SR has 30k miles... like thas some sort of magic number

their cars can have high mileage just like ours. You never know what your really getting unless you get the whole clip with the odometer still intact.

Usually the motors you buy that are just motorsets, ie not entire clip--just motor/ecu/tranny, those are the ones in worse condition and have higher mileage.. just what I heard from someone who deals with SR importing. Everything in life has scams so be on the lookout for your money.

they can tell you any mileage or that the SR's only have 30k from the junkyard, they mgiht be idiots for saying that, but your a moron for believing that lol

my 91 240sx has 215k miles on it and still has 180 compression in all 4 cylinders, seeing as how they came from the factory with 175 i think my engine has done fairly well for itself.

That all sound reasurring. Even though mine is at 130k I've heard from some people I know too that 240sx and nissan in general have pretty strong cars. I probably should worry till then.

Sr20det, yeah I agree. Most of the places I looked at, they all say their engines are at 35-45k miles on them but I guess we can never be too sure on where we buy our engines but rather have to take the risk. Even so...BELEIVING that we have a low mile engine might make our cars live just another day longer...lol

Re: KA life duration?

I have some input on the whole low mile Japanese engine subject. I LIVED in Japne for a couple of years and had to deal with the stupid inspection over there. The deal is that there is an inspection that you have deal with that they check things like leaks and such. These car are really cheap and old and most Japanese people will buy new before they pay a mechanic to fix the old ones, which is way worse than paying a mechanic here. I have heard the inspections, with labor, costing upwards of $2000 bucks, which you can get an S14 for that. So to the junk yard it goes. The motorset may not be 30k miles, but they are not near the mileage that the 240sx's have here. I'd say no more than 60k. Because we all know that motors get leaky when they are over 50k miles.
