Re: Re: motor

better yet...ask your wallet if it's feeling full, lol.

we have both the sohc vtec in my 89 si and the dohc vtec in his 91 si so i speak from experience...they are 2 different worlds

the sohc vtec (and dohc zc) swap is for those who need a replacement engine and would like a little more. the swap it's self is cheaper, future maintance will overall be cheaper, and mod's in general will be cheaper.

the dohc vtec swap will cost more. compared to the above mentioned it is more expensive for everything. however, you will have more HP to start and the opportunity to gain an overall more HP than the sohc vtec or dohc zc will ever see. it's more for the person looking for HP gain vs. the person who wants a replacement with a little more kick.

so now you need to ask yourself:
*how much money do i want to spend now to swap it in?
*how much of HP gain are you looking for?
*how much do you want to spend for mod's and maintance in the future?

me personally...i just wanted my car to be quicker after my stock engine decided it wanted to blow head gaskets. my sohc vtec was never fast enough for him. it never tached out high enough for him either....

i almost forgot. another difference is redline. i'm fine and dandy with my 7k redline. he perfers his 9k redline of the dohc vtec. every now and again we race for fun. i can get him off the line with my stage 2 clutch...but as soon as i shift he goes flying by laughing
