Any thoughts out there on this one?
I have a 92 Firebird Convertible w/ 3.1L V6 that is acting peculiar. The problem started when the car refuesed to start after a rainstorm; I found that the distributor cap had a crack and thus replaced both the cap and rotor. The car now starts, maybe a bit rough, but runs pretty well. However, after the motor starts to heat up, after about 5-10 minutes of driving, the car will start to stall if I hit the gas anything more than VERY gradually. Visual inspection shows the wires to be OK; the plugs are less than 5k miles/1 year old. When it starts to stall, I hear some popping in the exhaust. I also noticed that it doesn't do this in park/neutral, it'll rev up on a dime. Any thoughts where else to look? Thanks! jason |

Re: 92 Firebird 3.1L stalling issues
dude how well did you check your wires? i had this same problem. i have a rallysport camaro that done the same thing. i checked my wires they looked good but still had a bad miss. my distributor and rotor were like new. so i went and got some new wires. as i was replacing them the one on the back passengerside was burnt almost inhalf. and it was arking off the manifold. i paid $20 for new wires and that fixed it. but my exhaust was poping like that too. my problem was during acceleration, low gears at high rpm. it tried stalling out climbing a hill and every thing. so you may want to disconnect the wires one at a time and check them good.

Re: 92 Firebird 3.1L stalling issues
i tell you what. if your having a hard time with checking them plug wires, i know on a camaro and firebird you will have to get them up on ramps to do anything to the lower half of the engine. take a windex bottle, fill it with water, wait until it gets dark, start your car, let it warm up, then start spraying your plug wires with the water, if you have a exposed wire youll find it like that, cause it will start arking.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give the Windex trick a shot this evening, and go ahead and change the wires as a starting point.
