99 V6 Exhaust question

My neighbor has a real nice sounding truck and i asked him what kind of exhaust he had, and he told me that he just took out his muffler. And he told me that if i wanted mine to sound like his(real throaty sound) that i should try a glaspack. Would this be my best route for a real low pitched exhaust sound? Please give any suggestions. Also how would i go about getting dual tips without getting a complete cat-back system?
Thanks, Phil

I was in the same boat a few months ago. I had a 1991 ranger (2.9 L) that I took off the muffler, and it sounded hot. But it got too undependable for my 40 mile commute, so i had to get a new one (a 1999 ranger - 3.0 L). I also wanted a nice exhaust (duals), but because the new laws, i had to have a muffler. From here, you are left with two choices..
1) get a pipe splitter (AKA a "Y") and get it welded somewhere after your cat, then weld on two glass packs, and then pipe some shinny tips out the back
2) (What I did - but costs more - about $270) buy a flowmaster delta 40 muffler. When you buy it, get the kind that has a single input and dual outputs. Then piping to the back with tips.

Words from the wise.... take it to your local muffler shop. They usually carry NICE exhaust tips and pipe hangers, and can bang out the job in a few hours. I would not suggest that you try it yourself since you've got to deal with the spare tire which you still need to be able to access, unless you have experience with piping and welding.
If you get a flowmaster delta 40, YOU WILL BE HAPPY (not quite as loud as no muffler, but sounds really good), and probably will be happy with glass packs too (much cheaper)
Good Luck!
