I am a novice with a blown up engine. I need to remove it and I hve gotten as far as getting it on the jack but how do I get the engine off of the manual transmission?

Can anyone offer some help. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I would be very happy to have access to a lift but I don't. Looks like I will have to take the drive line off and slide the tranny back. I am not clear on how the tranny comes off the engine. I took the 6 bolts off the engine side of the tranny bell housing and thought the tranny would slide off but no joy!

Re: Camaro LT1 Engine Removal

you can do it in the garage though the bottom. Just get 2 sets of big jack stands. you need like 36" of clearance under the front bumper I believe.

Re: Camaro LT1 Engine Removal

what the hell kindof jackstands do you have where you can get 36" of clearance!?!

and to the engine out in a garage i would think it would be easier to unbolt the tranny and do em seperately...

Re: Camaro LT1 Engine Removal

See if you can lift the car up somehow, maybe ramps with jackstands in the back. Then slide under it and shake the tranny off of the motor. The input shaft runs thrue the clutch, and pp which is bolted to the engine. You have to have the splines in the middle of the pressure plate straight and not in a bind for the tranny to come off smoothly. If you are doing this laying on your back you may want to get someone to help you. Best of luck. The pilot bearing may be seized so you may need a prybar, and possibly a hammer.

The 36" only has to be under the Front Core support area and Front Fascia. You can buy some 6 ton jackstands that go up to like 27" or something, End have the rear lower with some Regular jackstands. this Should get you the clearance.
