1995 non-start

The EXACT thing happened to me with my 1994 S-10 V-6 about a year ago. It would be difficult or impossible to start unless the battery was freshly charged or with a jump. After scratching my head for a while I tested the fuel pressure with ignition switch on but engine not running and sure enough it was about 10 psi below spec. These engines are super sensitive to fuel pressure and if it is low the CPI poppets won't open properly. But with a battery fresh off the charger and pumping out 13.5 volts the fuel pressure would be high enough to get a start and once running the voltage is generally 13.5 volts so it would run normally. Anyway, I determined that my fuel pump was "weak" for whatever reason so I replaced it and the 12V fuel pressure returned to normal and I never had a starting problem again. It could also be the FP regulator but I'd bet you have the same issue I had. Good luck.

Ray

Just replaced pump on my 94 not bad at all I took the bed off (just 8 bolts) disconnected the wiring harness and fuel filler neck and lifted right off. This left thr sending unit/pump assembley in the open . About a hour an half job give or take.

Hope it helps

Well, I did it the old fashioned way, I dropped the tank. It was moderately difficult and took a bit of time. And you need to get the tank essentially empty either by draining or driving it or it will be very hard to handle.

Check your fuel pressure, ignition on, engine not running, first before you replace the pump and compare it to the specs. I don't remember the numbers but I do recall that my pump was about 15 psi low. Gages are readily available and cheap. They just screw onto the schraeder valve on the rear drivers side of the intake.

I have never heard of removing the bed to do a fuel pump like the other guy posted. That might actually be an easier way to go but I dunno since I've never tried it.

Re: 95 S10 wont start

Make Sure You Change Your Fuel Filter As I Seen Many Pumps Fail From Clogged Fuel Filters.
