2001 yukon denali failed state inspection for parking brake
Hi,
Could not get 2001 Denali state inspection because parking brake pedal went all the way down and car moved in the gear. I came home and tighen the nut but it bottom out and I could not tighten any more and still car moved when parking brake fully applied. My question is that if not the adjuster, then can I adjut the parking brake behind the wheel or do I need to remove the caliper. No grinding noise. Brake is working fine. Only parking brake issue. If you have fixed this problem, please share your expertise. Thanks. |

Most likey the park brake shoes are worn..these are located inside the drum portion of your rear rotor assembly

There is a star adjuster at the brake shoe that should take of the problem for you (unless the brake shoe is worn out.)
Hope this helps. |

Re: 2001 yukon denali failed state inspection for parking brake
I will check the star adjuster and shoes. At less than 45000 miles, surprise that this SUV can grind out the shoes. Do not understand why we have pads and shoes on the same wheel.
Do this problem can be covered under hidden warrnaty or I just have to fix it myself. Thanks. |

The park brake shoes are very thin and wear quickly (not exactly thrilled with the design, but the engineers didn't ask me). You can try to adjust them a little, but replacement is the more common repair
