1990 Delta 88 Royale Won't start

whats up guys, I'm new on here. I just got a '90 88 Royale from my buddy who knows nothing about cars. I had driven it for a little over a week when it started running very rough, had no power, and eventually died and would still will not start. It will turn over fine, it just wont start. I replaced the plugs and wires because the old ones were rusted and dry-rotted, but still nothing. I have heard a lot about the ignition module going out on 88's. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 1990 Delta 88 Royale Won't start

If you have a 3.8L motor, and no fire, three items: Crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, and ignition module. They should be replaced in that order. Heat causes them to melt internally. The other item is fuel pressure, you need to be able to get about 50 psi at the test port located right next to the fuel pressure regulator. You need to make sure your fuel filter has been changed, and you also need to make sure the fuel pump kicks on for 2 seconds when you turn the key to on, engine off. The crank sensor is located behind the harmonic balencer pulley, the cam sensor is located just to the left of the water pump pulley, and the ignition module is located right under the coil packs. The last item is your coils but they dont go out that often. Hope this leads you to an answer. -Chris

A extreme problem with the olds 3.8 liter engine is the ignition modual replaced it 3 times in my oldsmobile... due to bad wires a place like Napa may had a tester for that particual ignition modual.
