Sunbird wont start if in the sun all day
I have a 89 sunbird that will not start if it sits in the sun all day. It sounds crazy put I have tested my theory. If I park in the shade at work it starts but it takes about 30min for it to start or even until the sun goes down for it to start. People think I'm crazy. I have been told it could be a vapor lock but cant tell me how to fix it. I have change the fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires, rotor. It gets so bad I can smell the gas since it is not burning away. One day my air filter caught fire. I have been told it could be that the gasoline is not staying a liquid form al the way to the carb. and that it is turning into a gas form before it can ignite. I was told that it sometimes happens to race cars and they put a bag of ice on the carb to cool it down. Which would make sents why it starts only in the shade. I am not driving around with a bag of ice in my trunk. I hope someone can shed some ligh on my A to B car so I can get to C for a change.

when you park it in the sun, try loosening the gas cap. do you get a strong vacuum or pressure escaping from the tank?? try replacing your gas cap with a pre-vent type, it may cure your problem.
