Please Help verify engine swap?

I have a 1989 celica st w/a 1998 cc DOHC fuel injected motor witch now has a 4" hole were the oil filter used to be. i need to know if i can directly replace this motor w/a 1.6 liter carbuerated moter out of my 1985 corolla LE? can i just swap motors,or would i have to do a motor & tranny switch? any expeienced input would be helpful.
