Re: help 95 CAMARO starting problem

sounds like it could be a VATS problem. if the VATS system does not regognize your key for whatever reason, it will not send a crank signal to the starter. do your interior lights work? have you checked the fuse panel for a blown fuse?

The key to troubleshooting is "divide and conquer". Now, with your ignition OFF take a jumper wire, at least 12 gauge, touch the positive battery post to the solenoid wire and see if it cranks. KEEP AWAY FROM MOVING PARTS! If it cranks your problem is in the neutral safety / ignition switch / VATS circuit. If it doesn't crank replace the starter. You state your battery is charged, you might have tested that with your headlights as most do. Do your radio and heater blower motor work? They are on a fusible link shared with the solenoid.

Re: help 95 CAMARO starting problem

Hey there, to fix your vats problem is pretty simple, its also a very common problem with the system in and of its self. ive done both lock cylenders on my two camaros because of it. the Vats system is basicly an ohm meter that reads the resistance of the pellet in your key, and compairs it to a resistor in the Vats module, if they are different it will not allow a crank signal to be sent to the starter, and will not allow the ignition system to energize. a way to bypass it is to use a digital multimeter to measuer the resistance in ohms of the black pellet in your key, where the silver stripe is. go buy a resistor of that same value. now go under the dash at the base of the steering column, there will be a two wire connector that comes down from inside the column, and then goes into the main instrument panel wiring harness. unplug this connector, and install the resistor on the harness side of the connector. this should allow you to start the car.

The propor fix for this is to buy a new lock cylender for the car, installing it requires the removeal of the steering wheel and lock wheel assembly. undo a screw in the lock cylender, and pull it out. there will be two wires attatched to it and more than likely one of them is broken, or the insulation is rubbed through, and this is causing your no start condition. youll have to fish the new lock cylenders wires back down the steerinc column, so i suggest you tie a peice of thin wire, or string to the connector before you pull it out through the column, so you can use that same peice of wire/string to pull the new wires back down through with. hope that helps

Re: Re: help 95 CAMARO starting problem

That could be a oxygen or oil pressure sensor gone bad.
