2000 T & C Shifting Problem HELP!!

I recently bought a 2000 Chrysler T & C Limited from a used car dealer. Of course, when my husband and I both test drove it on 2 different occassions, for approximately an hour each time, it ran like a dream. So, about 30 minutes after we bought it, it started acting up. PERFECT TIMING!! When you get up to about 50 mph, it shudders a bit and then kicks on up into high gear. I looked up similar instances on this forum, and seems as though there is a "speed sensor" that can cause your car to go into "limp home mode" and make it do this. So, I took it to a local mechanic and he initially said to me that it sounded like a bad "speed sensor", until he drove it. Then he said he believes it is the torque converter going bad or the switch inside the torque converter. He says the torque converter is locking up and keeping it from going into high gear and then when it unlocks is when you feel the shudder and then it kicks on into high gear. He says I will have to have the transmission taken completely out to get to it and that a bad torque converter could also possibly mean I may have to have my transmission rebuilt or buy another. Does this sound correct? Should I pursue the "speed sensor" thing or does it sound like the torque converter?

I am not sure what state you are in but in NY all dealers must give you a warrantees of at least 1000 miles or one month. I had this same problem and it was the speed sensors. Also if you are not sure when the trany was serviced last have it completely serviced but only at the dealer. These tranys can be a nightmare. This has happened to me twice with the speed sensors in six months. I just had it done again last week and the first time was in Jan 04. The first time the dealer paid to have it done. Don't trust the local mechanic to service your trans they can do more harm than good. Speed sensors almost anyone can do.
