HELP: Do all 96+ Civic Decks have plug for Keyless?

Hey guys, well a kid here at college who was going to buy audio from me decided not to because he thought his friend had better prices, even though everytime he told me a price this other kid could get I could beat it. Well that was like a month ago, now today I find out he bought some pioneer stuff and the deck was used(no cd pullers ) and he has a 96 Ex w/ keyless. Well his great car audio guy and him went to work on installing the pioneer deck, and during it they took apart the whole bottome part of the dash, broke a vent, and BROKE AND CHUCKED his 96 stock deck because "Hey he didn;t need it." So now he tells me that he is having problems with his pioneer deck(only turns on when he hits the power and only turns off when he hits power) and then I go is your keyless entry workign and he said no. Thats when I find out that his friend and him had half of the stock radio in the woods and other part in the parking lot....Don't ask me how/why they did it but they did it. So now he is begging me to fix it(I guess he got what he deserved, didn;t come to an audio guy that KNEW hondas and thought he was getting a better deal but really didn't). So my only question is, Do all 96+ civic radios have the plug for the Keyless entry? I know the EXs do but I have to find one used for him and I need to know if they all have the plug for it? Thanks a lot inadvance and thanks for reading my lil story

The actual Brain for the keyless is in the honda deck, its not a plug?!?. In order to have an aftermarket deck, and keep your keyless, you actually have to keep some wires going to the stock deck and push it way back into the dash behind your new cd player. And just so you know, his GREAT CAR AUDIO GUY isnt so great if he didnt know this, its pretty basic knowledge. Please dont even tell me that he messed up the wiring and now your friends dome light doesnt work either... You can buy a replacement deck on ebay for like $0.50. Better yet, ill GIVE you mine if you pay for shipping, outta my 97 civic ex.

Hey, yeah I know that the keyless isn;t just a plug, but I just wanted to make sure that all honda decks had the spot for the wire. I have the tutorial for it, thanks to the FAQ. His dome lights do work I found out. And the great part about his car audio guy is that they did it without a wiring diagram but they had a wiring harness though, but still. Hey thanks for offering your stock deck, I will probably take you up on that. Thanks a lot Bianca

What you need is a wire harness from a company called Metra.

The model number is METRA 1720T, it has a harness that plugs into your car.. and another end that u connect to the factory radio (or something like that) and 1 end of bare wire to connect up to the harness of the new radio.

either that.. or u need to run red, yellow and black wire from your old radio to your new.. and hide it somewhere.

Alright, I'm just checking, cuz I'm going to do the installation this weekend.

I have the following items and I need to know if this is all I will need to complete the installation:

1) Metra 70-1720T wiring harness
2) Alpine CDA9827 CD/MP3 Encoder
3) Honda Civic 96-98 DIN Kit

Now, since I've bought all those, I need to know where exactly do you put the stock radio? I went to the website that gave directions on how to bypass keyless entry, but I need more description than removing a few panels, and putting carpet and duct tape, etc. etc., it might easier when I'm doing the installation, but I'd like to get information on where it goes before doing the installation.

i've done some research on this and there is one thing i can clear up. I just replaced my stock head unit in my 2000 lx, which has no keyless. But the problem of the dome light not working any more after replacing stock head unit is specific to 96-98 models. When I replaced mine the dome light still worked.
