What Size Stall To Get?

I am gonna get a Vigilante T/C but am still undecided on what size stall to get. I have Complete intake, catback exhaust, 52 mm t/b, slightly polished runners on the intake man., lt4 k/m, "free mods", underdrive pulley's and I am in the process of puttin in strange 3.42 gears in, after this i want to get a stall but am undecided on the size i want? would I benefit more from a 2800 or 3200 or any other ideas? Thanks

Re: What Size Stall To Get?

if its a street driven i wouldnt go much higher than a 2500. persoanly mine is rated at 2200, but it stalls a little before that. if its only a track car, then you could probably go with a 3000 or so stall, but that might even be a little to high for your mods.

well what are you future plans?? if you got some big plans ahead get a stall that will work good with those also... 2800 seems like a good all around num to me

Re: What Size Stall To Get?

i am planning more mods to come..eventually a stroker motor so I was thinkin something that would go good with that too. But it is gonna be street driven as well, so im thinkin 2600-2800 maybe might be my best bet...

Re: What Size Stall To Get?

yeah, i got a 2600 on my IROC, and its way too much stall for the 2.77 gears, it locks up in third, shifts, unlocks, and then locks up again. hopefully puttin the 3.27 gears in will fix this problem *crosses fingers* but with the 3.42's in the back and your mods, the 2800-3000 range will be fine, just get a lockup converter or your gas mileage will suck monkey nuts.

Re: What Size Stall To Get?

Lots of street driven LT1 cars with anywhere from a 3000-3500 stall. it is not too large if your car makes the torque to use it. With 3.43 gears you might not want to use a 3500 and stay at a 2800-3000 range.

LS1 cars react best with a 4000 or better and 3.73 or better gears.

With 3.42 gears in a torquey LT1, I would go with a Vig 2800 2.5 STR, for as many can tell you it really stalls at 3000 RPM. It will make your vehicle a totally different animal to drive, you will love it.

I have an 01 LS1 with 3.73 gears and a 3000 stall with a 2.0 STR, and believe me it is very streetable. If I had to do it over, I would have gone with a 3200 stall 2.2 STR.

Just a side note, be prepaired to have your shift points adjusted both MPH & RPM.

Do not waste your time on any converter that stalls below 3000 RPM (Vig 2800 excluded).

On my 01, I needed a dyno tune, to also eliminate my torque management (something you do not have to worry about).

Re: What Size Stall To Get?

For a street car 3000 is plenty. But if you are planning big mods in the future then you will probably want to get more stall then if not now. If you want to mod the hell out of it and use it mainly at the track then you would want a dyno tune to help you find your max torque which is where you would want to stall too.
But for your car as it is now, I would get the 2800.
