Is my clutch out?

Hey, I have a 1988 Honda Accord LX 4-Door 2.0 FI. I am almost sure that my clutch is out, but I need to know for sure, and what's the best way to go about fixing it. About one month ago, I was holding my car on a hill revving the engine to about 3K rpm, with the clutch pedal halfway out. I know that's a stupid thing to do, but the damage has been done. I smelled the burning/ burned clutch but continued to drive it for almost 5 weeks. I began to lose power in higher gears, and i couldn't try to 'floor it' after the 2nd week. Now the car is sitting beside my church, with a bad clutch or something. When i start the car the engine sounds deeper ( i have never had a muffler on this thing since i bought it), and when i put it into any gear (usually 1st or reverse) i have to rev up the engine to about 3.5K rpm before i get a response, but it won't move (and it moves very slowly) until about 5K rpm. also it will not 'die' when i leave it in a gear and let out the clutch pedal, all the way. please help, someone, i am very frustrated because i am a senior in high school, funds are limited and this same honda accord, which my brother had since 1999, has made many 500+mile trips from alabama to missouri and vice versa.

wow, that definetly sounds like your clutch is going out. My old Nissan Pulsars clutch went out and I could give it gas while moving and just watch the revs go up without the car accelerating at all. Anyways, yes, definetly. You could get a clutch kit for it really cheap, drop the tranny and put the stuff in, not too hard, did it to my Pulsar and that's FWD, wasn't actually too bad.

Sounds kinda like a timing belt issue to me. But actually it could be both a bad clutch and timing belt. Check it out!

If you want, ..remove the slave cylinder from the clutch bell housing. place the trans in gear with the emergency brake on. in first gear hit, actually just bump the starter with your ign key. if the engine will not spin, there is some life left. if the engine runs, you willl need at lease a disc, for your clutch. if the car is a keeper for a few more years and you don't wish carpaments and jhigher ins. then get a cluitch kit, ...throwout bearing, clutch, and pressure, ..or just go get a used unit from Pick-n-pull. Also ,the Flywheel might need turning. the cheapest part will be your labor. hope you have some metric tools. hope this helps!

i say just replace your clutch and see what happens from there. it really sounds like a clutch problem.
