Computer updates for 03 Suburban?

How often are there computer updates for Chevy trucks? I had some minor work done at the dealer and they stated they updated the computer? Why? What changes? Can I still get updates after my warrantee expires? Free? I am sure I know the answer to the free thing!

Thanks

Re: Computer updates for 03 Suburban?

Anytime there are enough customer complaints about a particular drivability problem, engineers at GM will write new FirmWare for your computer to help with those issues that are recognized. You need to go back to the dealer and ask to see the Technical Service Bulletin that outlines the reason for the update, what problem it fixes, and what version # is it? You may be able to find out all other versions for your computer as well. I don't believe you will be able to get "free" updates after your warranty expires. Hell, it only takes 15 minutes to update anyway. Your really paying for the program, even though of the $130 you may end up paying, most of that goes to the stealership and not the tech or the person who wrote that update. One more reason to hate the stealership. -Chris
