what is your drawing technique?

Hey!
for the first, sorry about the language/grammar and stuff like that, hope you understand anyway!=)

Just wanted to see what kind of drawing technique you all use?

the technique i almost always use is to print out the car i'm gonna draw.
if its going to be a4 size(ordinary size for me) i print it the size i'm going to draw it. then i use to draw a line under the wheels, like the bottom, or the "floor", the place the wheels stands on.

then i measure the car, and put dots in all important places(like, the front wheel starts 1.5" from the headlight), the length, the height, the height of the hood and like that, hope u understand my sucking english =(

it is actually a pretty fast method, and sometimes i use the grid method(which is very good, but i think it takes just a little to much time=))

i think my measuring method is pretty good/great.
once i traced the outlines after i finished a car, on a transparent paper and put it over the finished drawing, and i was pretty amazed how exact it became, some milimeters in the front and one door was like 1mm bigger than it should be, so it is a fast and pretty darn good technique.

at least when i'm a more experienced drawer, grid technique i's probably better for beginners.

freehand is actually the funniest way to draw. but its pretty hard to get everything right, u can have really issues with a small thing and u can get a little bit crazy over it=)

and just some word about tracing, that really sucks!
i think i've only traced one car since i started drawing, and that wasnt funny at all.
but i think it is actually a pretty good thing to do when you are starting to draw, just to learn a little bit how the lines goes and things like that.

What is your drawing technique?
any special?=)

hope you understood!
sorry for the spelling and the grammar!

Re: what is your drawing technique?

What was wrong with your spelling/grammar? It was better than a lot of people.

I use a simmilar approach to you. I print off the ref pic, sometimes one in colour and on in black and white.

I then make measurements on the main features, and start doing a detailed outline, which I then shade, smoothing out the shading with tissues and tortillons.

Re: what is your drawing technique?

hmm, i get a blank piece of paper, get the ref pic n put it to the side and start sketching it out, depending on the shape of the car i find the easiest point to start from and take it from there.

pretty simple.

Re: what is your drawing technique?

typically, i look at several views/photos of an object and create a non-existent view from those. i make it up based on what i think the invented view should be.

Re: what is your drawing technique?

Nah, not if you know proprtions and things like that. If you get your angles down packed it is not that hard. I do it too. It's fun, especially when the view you want can't be found in a book. It's a good chalenge.

usually, I just use the box method, and some math to get the proportions correct. Then I use tortillons to shade.

Re: what is your drawing technique?

this is interesting.... i try to stay away from drawing exactly what i can see on a picture in front of me... i usually get a picture of a car that lets me see the majority of its body styling and little things that make it that car. from there i kinda get going with whatever perspective i feel, i often roughly use the box, to get things right with perspective.

i cant just take a car and draw it very well, i dont have nearly as much fun wtih that so i cant focus and get it done.
i'll take a picture of a stock car.. do as i said above.. and give it my own rims, body kits, wings, scoops, and all that good stuff.

*** highoctane- i havent been on in several months... my old name was "79VW" i forgot the password when i wanted to get on recently... anyway, please dont tell me that you still dont have a way of getting your stuff online. haha, i hope youve gotten your shit together.. if not.. good luck man

Re: what is your drawing technique?

i juss use the freehand method, u gotta look at the elipses and make sure u got the proportion rite, because if u dont, a single wrong wheel alignment could mess up the whole car
