Factory head unit input adapter?

Greetings all.

I have an '03 Galant with a non-Infinity stereo system. I would like to be able to interface my iPod with my factory head unit without going the FM-modulator route. Thus, a few questions:

1) My head unit is the standard CD player with 6 preset buttons, which, I'm assuming, can also be used for controlling a CD changer? The face of the headunit says "W286" in the upper right corner. Am I correct in assuming that this head unit does in fact have a CD-changer interface in the back. I don't want to pull the thing out if I don't have to...

2) If it does have a CD-changer interface, does anyone know the pinouts? I would be able to wire a connector (L +/-, R +/-, power, etc) without any problems if I knew what each of the pins did.

3) I've been trying to find any information I can on Google for such an adapter, but they don't seem to sell any for Mitsubishi models. Would a Chrysler adapter work just as well?

Any additional thoughts or comments are welcome - and any help anyone can give would be appreciated!

Re: Factory head unit input adapter?

is this an aftermarket head unit or is it the factory unit? if it's aftermarket, who makes it? any aftermarket unit, if it has cd changer controls, can be adapted to rca with a simple call to the manufacturer and about $30.

It is the factory unit, which make it more difficult to find an adapter.

Re: Factory head unit input adapter?

well, you could call mitsu and get a harness, which will cost you as much as a new head unit and the adapter...or you could just get a new head unit and adapter. you are right though, the fm modulator won't give you the quality you are looking for. try calling mitsu and say your harness to the changer got cut somehow and wondered if you could get a new harness or the specs to it.
