Keyless Entry
I have a 2001 Civic EX Coupe. I bought it used and it does not have keyless entry. I hear it is a pain to install. Does anyone have a middle of the road $$$ suggestion for a system to purchase? Also, how much should I pay to have it installed?
Thanks, Chris |

If you are a getting keyless entry system you may as well have an alarm and remote start to go with it. But if you have to have the keyless entry only try DEI for a unit. http://www.directed.com . And they are not hard to install. If you need help let me know

Re: Keyless Entry
Very cool. Thank you. I'll have to stop by a retailer to get a price, I guess. How much is involved in a DIY install? I'm not the best electrician and haven't done any more than installing a stereo and some speakers in my old car.

I think you're right about security b/c the place I went to earlier wanted $150 for keyless entry and $250 for alarm w/ keyless. So, I'd rather go for the alarm.

Alarms with keyless entry are getting to be cheap in price. Be sure to get a brand that has a good reputation.

Re: Keyless Entry
What kind of $$$ are we talking for say, a Viper model? I checked one place and they wanted $250 installed. That seemed high to me, is it?

Thats about the going rate on a Viper. What model is it if you know off hand? DEI (Viper) makes good security and they have a good reputation. I would roll with a viper if I were to go with anything inexpensive.

I'm not sure what model, I just stopped in one place by my house. I am going to go shop around the area this week. I have to get my inurance inspection and a dent pulled out at the dealership tomorrow and wednesday. So, after that I can look around. I'll let you know what model and $$$ I come up with. Any specific suggestions? I'm not looking for anything over the top. I just want keyless entry. Since it seems smart to get an alarm too, I;ll go for it, but I just need something basic. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Keyless Entry
Hey, if you want something unique for your keyless, I just installed "KeyNoKey" in my car. It has a sensor that autmoatically unlocks the car as you approach it, and locks when you leave. No button pressing necessary. Go to 12voltshop.com to buy it. Only 100$. I had only ever installed car stereos b4, but I was able to install this myself. This is not a brand with any reputation, but the customer supprot was great and ive had if for 4 months now and no problems.
