My son has a 2000 mustang GT 4.6. He came home today complaining that when he goes to start the car, it rotates but won't fire until he pumps the gas a few times. He also said that when slowing down on the freeway, the car seems like it wants to stall (once again he keeps his foot on the pedal to keep it running). However, local driving (except for the hard start problem) the car seems to run fine. I'm betting on the simple stuff (fuel filter or possible IAC) but with all of the other possibilities (MAF etc.) I thought I'd run it by you guys to see what you think. Thanks "Pop" McGee

could be any of those things you mentioned... check 'em all. i'd take the IAC motor off and rinse it out with carb cleaner. worked wonders on my car ('89 5.0). do the same to the maf sensor, but be careful not to screw up the little wires running across it. also make sure the PCV valve is functioning... easiest way to do so is take your intake tube off after the MAF and see if there's oil on the throttle plate. if there is, replace the PCV valve and clean all it's associated lines.
oh yeah, and if you go crazy with carb cleaner in the intake, crank the motor with the injectors and coils disabled for a few seconds to make sure there's not too much in the cylinders.
