gears?

OK i was talking to a mustang guru about gears and i told him about a race i had while back vs a SN GT with atleast a catback sounded like ass but what was really odd was we ran on the high way he pulled on me till like 80 and passed me still gunning it wasn't getting any faster then 90 at the most.
It was wheezed to hell simply put my buddy told me there are race gears with ratio like 4:54 and you will redline last gear or OD at like 80 90 but make an street killer but most dont like them due to tracking up nuts and horrid gas cause of them.

Well could this have been what happened caues ever since i lost its been racking my brain.

Re: gears?

Sounds like some pretty steep gears to me. 4.56 maybe.

no such thing as 4.54, 351Wstang is right. and that's awful steep for a street car. you'll turn high RPMs on the freeway and thusly use quite a bit more gas. the general consensus is as follows: auto, 4:10 and manual, 3:73.

make sure you got a decent tire under this car, or you wont' hook up too well with a steep gear.

If you run the 1/4 mile drag strip be careful not to go too steep on the gears. 373 is perfect for a 5 spd. In the 1/4 mile a stock mustang is running between 95-100 MPH.
