i originally came to this thread because i wanted to know where to buy the paint for my fujimi kit. then i read a few posts and i'm thinking to myself holy shit this is a lot harder than i thought. i'm almost scared to try it. i will probably end up just elmers gluing all the parts together unpainted because its so much stuff i cant imagine doing it on my own.


i'm new to this hobby if you can't tell, so to my original question... where do i get the fujimi paint? lol i'll start there and then get into glues and all that good stuff.

help the newbie!!

im not even sure fujimi makes paint... do they? i use testors since its pretty much available everywhere. alot of the guys here use tamiya.

The thing that attracted me to this forum was the range and different skill levels of participants here. I've built for 30+ years, have had my cars in the model mags, and am somewhat known in the southeast U.S. for my work. I thoroughly enjoy seeing other peoples projects and skills progress and believe me when I tell you, I am still on the front hill of the learning curve and have learned alot in this board. Every builder here started where you are and will tell you that with some imagination and willingness to try things, your skills will advance very rapidly! Don't be in a rush, master the basics first (clean painting and assembly), don't be intimidated and just enjoy the hobby for yourself!! Most any "Master Builder" will be more than happy to share his techniques if you ask, without hesitation!!

Hey! Welcome to the model forum! You forgot to tell us what kit you're working on (but I bet it's a Honda! )

Yes, some parts of this hobby are hard, but you will get better with practice! Even if you finish a kit and it turns out kinda crappy, you'll still feel good because you finished it. Then later, after some more practice, you can build it again, and see how much you've improved!

For paints, all Tamiya kits reference Tamiya paint codes, because they have their own line. The other kit makers, Fujimi, Aoshima and Hasegawa, reference either "Mr. Color" paints made by Gunze Sangyo or "Auto-Color." Those two brands are common in Japan, but may be hard to find here. Any model shops that stock Gundam kits (Anime Robots) may carry Mr. Color.

I personally use Tamiya acrylics for everything. I have used Gunze Sangyo spray paint before, and it was good, but expensive!!!

Is it available in US? I didn't see Gunze spray, only Mr Surfacer primer in spray cans for $8 e.a.

any websites for ordering paints? the fujimi kit i have (integra type r) lists all the needed colors. but i don't know where to fond.

Use Tamiya spray lacquer for body and Humbrol/Tamiya enamels for detailing/interior

On their main page, scroll all the way down in the left frame. You will see "Browse by Company". There you will see a few brand name listed and a pull down menu. I know HLJ carries Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo paints. Check them out.

But I advice you to buy paints from a local shop, since its more convenient.

Yes, definatly try your best to find a shop near you. There will be nothing worse that running out of semi-gloss black halfway through a project and having to wait a week and a half to mail-order more paint!

i don't know of any shops around here. just chains like toys r us and whatnot. so chances are i'll mailorder everything

You might want to try looking in your local yellow pages first, thats how i found my hobby store.
