service port
I was just wondering if a service port when bad when it had never been used. We had a new motor put in a 96 Sierra and when we got it back the AC didn't work. The shop said the port went bad and charged $90 to put on a $10 part. Does this happen?

Re: service port
If the AC worked before the new engine.....it should work after the new engine is the way I see it. You got ripped in my opinion. If anything was damaged during replacement of the engine that was not specifically annotated in the service order, I believe that they should incur the cost of fixing that problem that resulted from install of the new motor. -Chris

The service ports on those systems will stick and allow the R134 to escape...only if a guage set is hooked up. Also the low pressure sensors were known to cause problems with A/C operation.. They should have checked the A/C operation before you picked up the truck.

Thanks for the replies and opinions. I think I will look for another repair shop, especially since we paid for brake light problems and got it back and a month later they quit again. I found the brake petal switch barely plugged in. I snapped it in place and now they work fine. Go figure.
