Temperature Gauge and Overheating.....

I got a 86 Camaro Z28 with a 305 TPI and I have a problem. I had left out of town one weekend and when I came home, I went to start it up wen i see my temp gauge skyrocket passing the overheating level. At first I thought "Oh well must be tha gauge". But then the next day the car starts overheating. I changed the fan motor and it seemed to do the trick but then it started overheating again. So I was wondering if my overheating has something to do with a temp sensor of some sort? I was also considering to make a switch on the radiator fan to keep my fan running while im driving. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

well, the switch for the fan, and the switch for the fan are two different sensors. however if you have the TPI system you have two fans, and i think that the sensor for the guage also activates the second cooling fan. so if that sensor is bad, it may not be turning on the second fan causing the overheating, i would replace the temp sensor located in the cylender head on the driver side. and see if that solves the problem.

If you overheated your car once it’s always a good idea to replace the thermostat just to make sure... once this is overheated it looses it durability...
