vibration in steering / lunge forward when starting

i have 2 problems...

1st. there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel when turning at slow speed.

2nd. When i start my 98 aurora in the garage after sitting all night, most of the times - it lunges forward as though it was in gear when it started up. sometimes i hear a clunk. i cant imagine this can be a good problem.

i had it in the garage and of course they couldnt get it to do any of the above...any suggestions?

Re: vibration in steering / lunge forward when starting

The vibration in the steering might be related to the steering lines. I've heard some Auroras have power steering lines that are different lengths on either side that leads to a harmonic pulsing. You'd have to search for other threads to see if 98's are affected (or maybe someone who's done it will step up...).

Have someone look at your tranny/motor mounts the next time you have it up on a lift. There are three mounts that hold up both, and one that's just the motor. If they are broken as mine are, supposedly things can sag if it sits long enough and put pressure on the linkages. This makes the transmission lurch with the engine until things get unkinked enough when the motor starts going. I've never had issues I can pinpoint to the mounts, and just the three by the tranny are at least a grand to fix. Thus mine are still cracked, but that was one of the things they warned me COULD happen...
