Supra MKIII vs 2001 Prelude.

Although I know these cars are pretty different, I'm cross shopping them.

I like the Supra's Inline 6 configuration and it's rwd, plus it has more Hp and tq.

The prelude on the other hand is a fourbanger. And it's Fwd, but It's a lo newer.

Which is better for modification? Overall?

I know it would cost about 2000 to get the supra to 300 hp. And about 3000 to get the lude to a similar level.

Please help.

I woudl buy this beast, But I doubt I will stil be for sale in a year when I'm ready to buy.

Re: Supra MKIII vs @001 Prelude.

A Prelude would be less tired and thrashed, hence more reliable, but ultimately the Supra will make the most power.

hum, the cars are so different!

185hp vs 240hp
fwd vs rwd
I4 vs I6
reliability vs maintenance

The Supra easily puts out a lot of horsepower, but it's heavy.
And everybody who owns an Mk3 here keeps telling me how expensive the maintenance is.

The Prelude can be treated like shit and will still work

preludes handle very very well too. especially the ones with rear wheel steering.

Hmmm

For me no comparison as the Prelude is a front driver, so Supra hands down.

alittle correction on the power level of a 01 prelude. they come with 200 hp. so the power difference is only by 40hp. so they both run similar times due to the weight difference. both are 15 second cars.

however the prelude will have a much newer less funky smelling interior becuase the car will only be 3 years old. also the prelude looks waaay better then a boxy mark III. also with the stock CT26 turbo on that 7M motor, you will not even see 13 second 1/4 runs in a supra. its a waste of money if you ask me. think of it has a 6 cylinder 2nd GEN MR2 that weights around 500 lbs more and you get the idea. the CT26 on the MR2 isn't exactly a big turbo, but on a 2800 lb mr2 you can get into the 13's with it, but on a big heavy supra not a chance.

so for me hands down the prelude.

I'd go with the Prelude simply because its a newer car to begin with.

Re: Supra MKIII vs @001 Prelude.

the prelude may not be rwd or turbo, but its an all around better car.

Re: Supra MKIII vs @001 Prelude.

i dont know if u have them but over her MKIII supra came with M7-GTE and 1JZ-GTE.... do NOT get M7... it is a POS motor with HUGE reliability issues, while on the other hand the 1J is a beautiful, smooth strong engine: its exactly the same as a MKIV 2jz... just with a shorter stroke...

Re:

It All depends on what you can find...
My mom bought an 87 Turbo Supra w. 67k on the ODO.... that thing was clean, she got it for 3900...

It's a beauty...

I'd say you're prolly better off with the 'lude though.
