Re: automatic to manual?

shoulda waited for a manual.

the swap sucks. its fairly simple, but it sucks, its always better to have a manual from the get-go

I'm pretty sure it's not gonna be too hard. (correct me if I'm wrong)
but you're probably gonna need a parts car, for all the necessary parts. So basically you're gonna have to shell out some money to convert the car. The only thing you shouldn't have to buy seperately is the tranny which should come with the engine, the SR that is...

also, read the FAQ on the home page of he 240sx forum here. It has a lot of information and it helped me a lot.

check this site for more information, this guy did it... http://240sx.org/links/installs/s14_5speed_swap.htm

i believe this is the basic list of parts from http://240sx.org/links/installs/s14_5speed_swap.htm

Factory Service Manual
Manual Transmission
Shifter
Release Bearing
Pressure plate
Clutch
Flywheel from a m/t
M/T Mounting plate
Flywheel Bolts (m/t bolts are longer than a/t bolts)
Clutch pedal
Brake pedal (From M/T car)
Clutch master cylinder w/ resevoir
Clutch slave cylinder
Clutch hydraulic lines (Main line, bleeder line, rubber line to slave cylinder)
Drive shaft front & rear section
Adapter bolts & nuts for mounting crossmember to the 5 speed (2)
Reverse light sensor, Neutral position sensor, 5th gear sensor (on side of 5 speed)
Lower shift boot & plate
Upper Shift boot & Finisher plate.

This sort of question has been asked/answered before...

and a really good post that J SPEC SilEighty made that explains this automatic to manual switcheroo...
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbu...420&postcount=2

to find answers to questions like this, just search the forum, that's how i found some of the threads to tell you about... it'll save you time of waiting for an answer and if you still have questions you can then post ones that are more specific. Just a thought...

hope this helps,

from what ive heard, its pricey, time consuming and almost not worth it, unless you REALLY want a stick i would just suggest a new ecu that will make it shift better and all that good stuff (thats my plan) and look at trading your auto car for a manual one, it will be easier (thats my plan b), if you still want to swap trannies, good luck.

Getting An Engine/tranny Together Is Easier Than Trying To Swap Parts.
