I have been posting about my truck's troubles taking longer than normal to start. I had the codes read and it said it was my throttle position sensor. I've been working 12 hour days and haven't had time to replace the thing yet. Today, after filling up at the gas station, all of a sudden I had to push the clutch in about 2/3 of the way with no resistance before meeting resistance. It was shifting hard as well. A few miles up the road, it was fine. No SES light came on. Could this be related to the throttle position sensor? This thing had a whole new clutch put in at 40k miles and is now at 110k miles. Any thoughts?

Is you clutch hydraulic?

I believe there is a resevoir you have to fill with a certain fluid for it.

This is a sign that you are really low.

As I have said earlier, buy a chilton or Haynes manual for your year of vehicle and it will show you what to do.

I bought a Haynes and replaced the TPS, and will check it out for the fluid issue. So far, the problem has not presented itself again. Hopefully it's good to go for a few weeks now! hahah

Did you reset the computer by pulling the negative battery cable off for 10 minutes?

Did you check to see the clutch hydraulic fluid level?

The clutch master cylinder is just to the right of the brake master cylinder to the right of the brake booster.

Check the level before you do damage or draw air into the system.

Don't just put it off seeing you have found your TPS problem, fix all the problems.

Yea i agree, check the fluid level. If you leave the problem alone its bound to get worse. If you get air in teh system teh clutch may not work at all.

I'm so sorry to be the one with 5000 questions lately. I got my TPS replaced, and it is starting like a champ now! Unfortunately, when I thought it would also take care of this shifting/clutch issue, it did not.

I have checked the fluid level and I plan to add some to it, but have one more simple question. The Haynes said the level should be to within 1/2 inch from the top. It is down about 1.5 inches. Would it being down that amount make it do this?

Again, the problem is:
intermittently, the clutch will get "floppy," and won't provide resistance until 2/3 through the stroke of the pedal. Then, once I've driven it for a few minutes, the problem completely disappears. Most days it doesn't even do this. But, when it does, it also resolves itself. When the clutch is acting this way, it also shifts rough.

Could this be the fluid still, with the amount it is low?

Why in hells name are you coming here asking the same question when you can't even top it up!!

I work 12 hour days, have 2 small children, am in the process of moving also, and on top of it, I have MS and can barely walk sometimes, and on top of it, I'm having truck problems left and right. I want to make sure I'm hitting the problem on the head as much as possible because it is so difficult for me to even work on my truck. And, with all this, I just don't have the money to dump into it to have someone else do it, or keep fixing the wrong things myself. I'm very sorry to have bothered anybody.

It's cool.

But not doing things when they come up will cost you more money in the long run.

Check your manual for what fluid the clutch system uses and for gods sakes top up the fluid.

It takes all of 5 minutes.

If you don't , you will draw air into the system and you WILL screw up you clutch hydraulic system.

I command you to go outside now and top it up to the proper level and pump the clutch 20-25 times to clear the system.

No more excuses!

I've called home and asked to have the Haynes and some brake fluid brought to me. I will double check it to see if I am supposed to add brake fluid, then I will add it, and hope it helps. Thank you for being patient. I know I've been a pain. Thank you for sticking with me.

It uses standard DOT3 brake fluid.

Fill it to 1/4 of an inch from the top.

Start the vehicle and pump the clutch in neutral 15-20 times.

Turn the vehicle off and check the fluid again for its level. Add if it needs more.
