New Project! 360 Spider!
For the first time in my life I was in the model shop yesterday and simply couldn't make up my mind what to get!
I must have spent an hour looking! You really can have too much choice!!! As soon as I decided on a model, I quickly found a reason not to get it! So I left!!! Went for a pizza and coke, bought a mag to read whilst I was eating, and there it was...an article on the Ferrari 360 Spider! It looked gorgeous! Read the article, finished the pizza and bought the model!!! So I will be starting it in between the Skyline! A few questions? Does anyone know if the challenge rear end is mesh or carbon fibre? I mean KNOW, not guess! I have included a picture to show you what I mean! I am thinking of bluey silver for this one, as I have Ferrari red and yellow, but they are at home!!! ![]()

The 360 F1 (the one with sequential gearbox) has a grille
The 360 (the one with H-gearbox) has a cover of the same color of the body. The 360Challenge is a modified 360F1, so it has a grille. The challenge also has a Naca-type air intake on the back glass (the one over the engine) for cooling the gearbox radiator that is installed above the gearbox. I own and drive a 360 challenge.... so i'm sure of that I think that the spider only comes in F1 version.

Very ambitious project!!! I guess 360 is one of the most complicated Tamiya releases

Thanks for all the help guys!
The Spider does have the manual 6 speed option, as the article I read stated how he preffered the manual box, feeling if you bought a Ferrari you would want to DRIVE it, and that means dipping a clutch, feeling the snitch of the metal gate, and smoothly engaging the clutch again, as opposed to just pulling levers! Leave the 150 millisecond gear changes to the F1 guys! Shame I don't have that choice for my model! If the rear grille is mesh I can't replicate it! I was thinking of going for the black rear grille if I could! Kinda just looks painted black on the yellow car I posted! |

But, if you choose to do the F1 type, there's no way, you have to put the grille.... Is there in the kit the 6-speed manual option?

No, only the paddles for the F1 system are in the kit!
But no mention is made of painting the black back, so it must be the fixed top Modena F1 that has the grille. The Spider doesn't! |

The grill, which is mesh, is an option under the "Scuderia" customization plan, which includes the F1 Challenge grill and the badges on the front fenders. You can order these things, and other custom items, such as red painted brake calipers, sunroofs, paint to match a sample, etc. on any ferrari, regardless of manual or F1 specification. The best thing to do for the model would be to paint it flat, or semi-gloss black.

Here is todays progress...
The body is quite hard to prep, the mould lines somewhat deep and in difficult areas! If you don't plan to use the centre wind deflection screen the gap needs filling in between the body and the humped section behind the head! This was done and filed smooth. Filler was also used to blend the vents just in front of the the front wheels. This is also time consuming to file, but worth it! Then I rub all the primer back off and that way you are gauranteed to remove any imperfections as it shows as white against the grey. I am finding it hard to locate a true plastic primer here in Oz, so I will wait until I get some before primering the boday again! I have decided to add the lights after painting, so I can put the paint on easier.
