Civic Or Wrx??

Ok me and my friend always argue about car stuff :-) I told him a WRX weighs more then a civic and he said it didnt, i come to find out there is a 1500 lb difference and the WRX is heavier. WRX=4,000lbs SI=2,800

OK so here's the question:

We are wondering if a civic si (97-00) with a turbo charger, exaust, intake, and boost controller would beat a stock Impreza WRX!?!?! ANYONE KNOW Help would be great :-)

Thanks,
-Aaron

Re: Civic Or Wrx??

Well if you compare a 2002 wrx and a 2000 Si... There is about a $5000 price difference but only a 4-500lb weight difference (wrx 3090lbs civic 2600lbs). Then stock hp...wrx 227hp and civic 160hp (the Si was only made in '99 and '00 of those years you listed and not in '97 and '98). So say 7psi of boost on a good turbo that would make 10hp per 1psi of boost; they'd be about even in hp... But the WRX would still win because of the awd; being able to put that power to the ground more easily.

Re: Civic Or Wrx??

wrx has awd so better traction and an engine designed for turbo. the wrx sti also has 3.0 liters or regular wrx 2.5l i think might be 2.0. so if u compare those the si is a completely differnent car than a wrx and a wrx has alot better advantages. u wouldnt beat a wrx unless u had a completely buildt built b16 but still then the wrx has alot more potential when u start modding it. thats what i think

Re: Civic Or Wrx??

b16 with boost > WRX stock. civics newer then 95 are portly mofos sexy light 1ton 4 and 5 gens. I would much rather the civic not too much a fan of th WRX even with all that power they feel slow and dont handle anything specil next to a nice SI but AWD does have nice point in the winter

Re: Civic Or Wrx??

if the impreza were stock and not an STi, i'd vote for the Civic. but as said earlier, the impreza would murder the Civic off the line...

My buddy's 2003 WRX that cost him $24K and change, whooped the ever loving piss out of my 2000 GS-R that cost me $16k ( I paid too much). So there's a top end Honda versus a low end Suby, with a $8K and 8 second difference. Basically $1k per second in the 1/4. For all the money and trouble and work you'd go through to tune a boosted b16 correctly to keep up with, or on occaision beat, a WRX, shoulda just bought the WRX.

also, for all the time and effort you would take putting all that orange dye and citric acid into an apple, you should've just bought the apple. (get it?)

8 Second difference in the ¼??? What the hell are you ? A GSR would do around (rough guesstimation only) a 15.5; and you're saying a WRX will do 7.5 in the ¼?! It's more of a 2 or 3 second difference.

As you lower your quarter mile time by seconds, the cost of the parts needed to get you from 15 seconds to 14 seconds is as least 3 times as much as 16 seconds to 15 seconds. When i had my v6 mustang, it cost me 1000 to go from 15.5 to 14.8. It cost me about 5000 to go from 14.8 to 14 flat. I can't imagine what it would have cost to go beyond that.

Re: Civic Or Wrx??

im not sure what kind of turbo Si's you guys have seen or what kind of wrx's youve seen for that matter, but a turboed stock b16 would beat a stock wrx. you forget that subaru claims 227 at the crank. they dyno at around 180hp at the wheels stock. a well setup turbo b16 would put down 220hp to the wheels if not more. there is no question that the wrx would rip off the line but by third gear the Si would be pulling much harder. hell my friends lsvtec integra caught a wrx in third gear and it doesnt put out anywhere near 220hp. you guys think too much of the wrx. it goies back to the old arguement "if you bought a $20,000 car and i bought a $10,000 car and put $10,000 in mods into it, i would beat you every time."

Re: Re: Civic Or Wrx??

Yes but it's also only a $5,000 difference in the comparison between the 2 cars he was asking about. So say around $3500 for a turbo and all the gadgets (gauges, engine managment, etc). The you have to spend the $ to get better suspension to be able to put that new added power to the ground; so say another $1200 for springs, shocks, traction bars, rims and tires. Of course those are rough estimates on pricing, so basically you'd have around 300-900 left over depending on what you buy. But still I've personally seen friends of mine race; one with a WRX and one with a turbo'd b16a. The WRX still won. Of course this is because the kid was still getting used to driving his turbo'd b16a, but that's what happens when you first do the kit (to anyone I've ever talked to anyways, maybe some people get used to it the first day). And everyone I've seen at the track with a turbo'd car (other than one with awd) spins it's tires changing gears all the way to 3rd. So basically it'd have to come down to the driver. Sure a great driver could kill a wrx with a b16a turbo; but if the driver of the wrx is the better driver chances are the wrx will win. But that's just my opinion; but I don't think you can say that no one else knows what they're talking about.
