Gauge conversion/upgrade

Has anyone converted their 88-89 CRX to use the 90-91 gauges?

I heard the wiring is different and worse yet, the colors are too. So I might be in for it when attempting to upgrade to the newer style gauges.

Why would I want to do this? The 88-89 gauges and housing are rather square. It's too late to just buy a newer CRX. Plus the 88 Si is suppose to be the lightest of the generation.

I have an opportunity to get a set of UKDM gauges. They go up to 150 mph and 9500 rpm. These gauges are meant for the B16a and that's what I got. I just need to know if I am going to be in over my head with the gauge swap.

There's the auction I won... "If I won, why do I have to pay?"

He's sending me the wiring so all I have to do is splice it. I heard a rumor that the colors will not match up between gen 2.0 and gen 2.5. *Just made that up as it's easier to say than 88-89 vs 90-91.)

Re: Gauge conversion/upgrade

oh and the EDM B16 clusters haev MPH and KPH so they are better than the JDM ones in that way , but its cable controlled for the speedo and not VSS and we dont have the door warning lights like the SiR

Re: Gauge conversion/upgrade

Trust me... it wasn't the price I wanted to pay. I have been watching ebay items containing 'CRX', 'gauges', and '150' in the listing for 3 years now.

This is the 4th set I've seen and they all are over $350. I counldn't pass it up as it's on of the last mods I want to do. THat and EDM power window conversion.

My speedo is cable controlled. Hence the reason I didn't try a really hard mod like and intire 94 LS dash into an 88 CRX. The eletronic speedo and the rest of the wiring would be a nightmare.

Re: Gauge conversion/upgrade

I know the shipping does kill but I look at it like this...

"Aint it so cool that I am importing parts for my car from Japan and the UK with so much ease!"

Where, before the internet, when you had to get something from Japan, it was by canoe and YOU were going to have to wait for it. Last week, ordered an MP3 player on ebay, guy was in the UK, got it in 4 days. How cool yet unreal is that. Makes me think what it'll be like when we are in space and still continue to exchange goods and services without a hiccup. -That's my rant for the day.

Anyways, yes, I would be interested in more parts. I saw an electronic climate control unit from the same seller. I don't have AC but it would look cool non the less.

I definately want a EDU power window kit. I can custom fit the holes for the switches. I planned on redoing my panels anyways. If it's different I pretty much want it. If they have glass sunroofs? Power mirrors? But, really I want powered M3's. I have the manual M3's cause the stock mirrors look so ugly.

I thought about installing the rear seat but that would be just for looks and to say I did it. I think that's it. Not much left to do... check out my signature.

Re: Gauge conversion/upgrade

I need the entire setup though but not soon. I just spent my wad on that gauge as you saw.

I'll need switches, motors, mechanical parts that move the window, and whatever wiring you can rip out of it. Take your time and get back to me... Thanks again.
