Thumbs up Here is a good one about EGR valves **UPDATED 19/AUG/2004**

Guess what?
Took the little beast to the car doc again. Explained the whole situation to him so we decided to open and clean the EGR valve. Apparently, the valve was opening fine but it kept opened, what was creating an extra air entrance giving the stronger sound to the engine and consecuently the higher consumption.

EGR valve was cleaned and oiled (I do not know if that word exists as a verb, sorry) and it is working better than new now.

I just filled the gas tank up two days ago. Now I am waiting to tell you all the mpg results. I am quite sure it has been improved.. A LOT..

So.. after all.. the beast still running as great as usual!!

Also.. no more "egg rotten" smell.. yiieeee!!

Last thursday (4 days ago) I took my 1.3 L 4 dr 1996 metro to the "car doc" to get the EGR valve replaced. He did the job and I got out of the anoying "Check engine" light. The engine sound changed (now it sounds stronger but better) and my drive is better now. The only thing wrong with the whole thing is that instead of increase my MPG, I got it decreased about 7 mpg. Has anyone and idea what is going on? EGR valve was used but looked fair well.

Some ideas what should I check now? The feeling when riding on it is the same when you put one of those "20+ HP" resistors on the AIT sensor connector.

Any idea would be truely appreciated,

MC.
