Howdy all,
I'm shiny new, so be gentle... ![]() I owned a 1990 300ZX TT for many joyous years around 4 years ago, and I've decided that alot of the joy went out of my life when I sold it ![]() I'm looking at a 1990 300ZX TT on Ebay... Item 2486968156. Is this a reasonable deal, and what are the odds it would pass Texas emissions testing? Anyone know how I could confirm whether it would pass? Anyone in South Carolina know of a place that does emissions tests? Any opinions welcome... thanks in advance. |

Re: Opinions on this Zcar & Texas Emissions
Welcome to AF!
BEAUTIFUL! That car probably runs cleaner and more efficiently than 65% of cars on the road. I doubt that would be an issue, but I'm not famliar with the texas emissions regulations. I would happily give my right nut for that car. It seems to be a car that's not too heavily modified, which is a good thing, and very well maintained, which is a must. And...to top it all off...not only is it one of my favorite colors, pearl white, but it also has my all time favorite wing on it. Not a big fan of wings, but I LOVE the Stillen SMZ wing...subtle, but also definately there. Fits the car beautifully. I'm not too sure about the nose, though...I'd go SMZ front end, but that's just me. In case you didn't notice, I LOVE the body styling of the SMZs. It's very subtle, but you can tell that it's not a normal Z32. Check it out to make sure it is what it seems like, then BUY THAT CAR, MAN!

Re: Opinions on this Zcar & Texas Emissions
the wood dash is.......different. that is probably the only thing that doesn't look right on the car. the upgrades he has on it is pretty nice. okay, really nice. the front bumper looks okay. but one thing good about the bumper is your hardly ever see it. just make sure it is what you want.

Re: Opinions on this Zcar & Texas Emissions
Nice! Buy it! I didn't think Texas Emissions were that bad!?! Try living in California... I don't see why it would be a problem! If you buy it... let us know!

Shouldn't have a problem with emissions, the only problem I could conceive it having is some turbo lag, depending on what other parts were upgraded, as is a common problem among larger turbos (dur...). But hey, a turbo upgraded Z for the price of just about any other Z is worth the money and then some...not sure about the "4 second 0-60" though...have to see a timed run to believe that. I must say the wood panel does look good, nice so see what replacing all the panels would look like done up like that. Or better yet in some brushed aluminum or something...anyway, the exterior looks alright, atleast the entire kit sort of looks the same, most people get some dumb swoopy wing, a jagged hole filled bumper and a twisted up set of side skirts...

Thanks for the comments!!
![]() My previous Z was white (I loved it), and although I'm not a big wing fan, I agree that wing does look pretty good. Accord to the seller, he talked with his mechanic/performance installer who said all parts including the ECU were C.A.R.B. Approved (which is supposed to mean California Emissions approved??) He also warned me that the catalytic converters have never been replaced, and his mechanic said they probably should be replaced before inspection. Texas emissions are nowhere near as strict as CA, but it would be a shame to own a car I couldn't register. It looks like there will be no way to tell for sure until I get it here though. I am getting more confident everyday that it would pass, or could be "coaxed" to pass. The owner also says it has a manual fuel pressure regulator so it can be dialed down for leanness, and thus should get better emissions. Hopefully it's not a line of bull. I've also been reading a little about a fuel additives and their effects on emissions testing. http://www.gtatech.com/index.htmlI am living in Houston, I was amazed at how many 300ZX TT's there are listed in Auto-Trader... none really caught my eye like the one on Ebay, but autotrader is a good comparison tool. I asked if he had any documentation on the Horse Power, or the 0-60 stat, and he admitted he didn't have anything besides the upgraded parts documentation and sales receipts. I personally doubt the 4 second number, but I'm not planning on racing it so it's not critical. Thanks all Keep the comments coming. Keep the bids to yourself!

Re: Opinions on this Zcar & Texas Emissions
I dunno, man...a car of that caliber probably is running to 60 in the 4s. I definately wouldn't be surprised.
I was born in California. Lived there for 13 years. I'd kinda like to go back...untiiiiiiiiiiiiiil I think about all the hoops they make you jump through involving cars. I HATE jumping through hoops. Registering my Z31T here in KENFUCKY was a pretty big pain in the ass...couldn't even IMAGINE how it would be in Cali. Like I said before, I'm anything but a major fan of wings...especially on Z cars. That one "radar antenna" wing that Broke referred to is just....bleh....square, tall wing doesn't fit the smooth, shapley form of the car. The SMZ wing that's on the eBay car is a different story. It's not too tall...not too gawdy...pretty subtle...accents the car...it's by far my favorite wing of any wing I've ever seen on any car. I wonder what it'd look like on my Z31T...if anyone is a photoshop guru...go for it. The emissions thing really shouldn't be a prob. The fuel press reg idea sounds alright and I've heard there are additives that you can use that will make it pass...if all else fails, grease some palms...it's not who you are...it's who you know, right? All in all, that car being as well maintained as it is and modified probably runs cleaner and more efficiently than the vast majority of cars on the road. I wouldn't give this another thought, man...

Re: Opinions on this Zcar & Texas Emissions
Yea...I had a thread going about my antics with the DOT...assholes...
My second fav spoiler for the Z32 is the one on the later model Z32TTs...the one that sticks up off the hatch a few inches. That fits the car very well, too. That the one you were referring to, freak?

Re: Opinions on this Zcar & Texas Emissions
the one on later z's is my third favorite. my two favorites are the jdm one and the one that was one ebay in this thread. i have a friend with a '96 TT, his spoiler is pretty nice (he is the guy who is in charge of www.chargen.net, talking about chargen, he said that he would put my car on there soon)
