Question Rack and Pinion

I have a 91MR2 N/A I just bought the car and i need to replace the Rack and Pinion. Couldnt i just clean the shafts and get new boots put on it, or do i have to replace the whole thing. Also they say the car idles rough, i think that i have a leak in the exhaust, do you think thats the reason its idleing rough, or do i need to just get a tune up, spark plugs, wires, airfilter.

Also Firestone says they do a fuel tune up that cost over 100 bucks!!!!!! What would a fuel tune up consist of, its not an OBII car so they really could make adjustmenst to the ECU, i just dont know what the heck they are trying to charge me for.

Re: Rack and Pinion

the toyota ecu can't really be tuned up. if your idle is rough (and especially since you just got the car) you should go over it and do all the little service things that may have been neglected... plugs wires, (check the distributor) good oil change, filters... The toyota ECU "learns" so if the battery has been disconnected it will idle rough until it learns about your engine, but if a plug or lead is crap then it can't fix it no matter what it tries...
