pocket bike mods?
ok, well al of my friends have ben buying these recently and we go to the school and race around the parking lot, and they let me ride thiers sometimes, and Ive decided im buying my own,. Im getting one that is a 49cc 2 stroke, which almost all are. and Ive seen carbs and pipes for them and whatnot, but I was wondering if you can dissasemble the engine and enlarge/smooth the ports for more power. if anyomnes owned a RC car you know how you could use a dremel to enlarge the ports and get WAY more power out of thelittle 2 stroke, could it work the same on the much larger 2 strokes with just a dril and a grinder bit if you are careful and just smooth out durves, and enlarge the openings a bit?
and how much of an increase in power would say a 55cc engine be opver a 49cc. I hear the ZX6r with the extra 37cc;s makes for alot more power. so on a 35 pound bike 6cc would be alot right? I was thinking of taking the engine to a machine shop, having it bord out, and then sending the block/rod to someone like wiseco and have them make me a custom piston for it. also when I break it in what do you think about running it hella rich like 16:1 for a full tank, and barely giving it any gas at all, then another tank of 16:1 riding it fairly quick but not very fast at all still, then move to the 25:1 it says and go about 3 more tanks easy before I really get on it. I know with the tiny little 2 strokes in RCs you REALLY have to break them in VERY EASY, but with a bigger one its probably not so important since they dont spin upwards of 35k rpms, right?

Re: pocket bike mods?
I personally just buy a nicer pocketbike. The Pollinis and bolattas (sp) are the way to go. Very nice bikes. Not like the cheap cracked frame bikes people get from Ebay for $200.
But just like any gas/combustion engine it can and will benifit from more air and fuel. Thats a give in. |

Re: pocket bike mods?
if I was gonna spen money on a dsmall bike id buy something like hondas nsr50, but I just got mine for 225 shipped and insured, and the design of the frame looks much stronger than the ones my freinds all got and I rode theirs and I think its fine. on theirs the swing arm goes out to the wheel and the other bar to support it mounts like halfway out ot the whel, this one goes from the wheel up higher on the fram easier so it is much stronger back there, plus it bolts on so if I bend it I can just replace it with tools instead of having to straighten it or cut and weld. and it looks the best out of most I ever see on ebay too.

Re: pocket bike mods?
Frame breaking is a huge issue with those things. Hope yours works out! Have fun!

Re: pocket bike mods?
well, my buddies have ridden theirs off of 6" curbs and on the wheelchair acceses up curbs theyve got a few inches of air, ive told them I wouldnt do it since no suspension, but they do it anywyas thinking the tire takes ALL the impact but I know the frames being stressed a little bit at least. but noones cracked or bent one yet and this one looks way sturdier.

Re: pocket bike mods?
Yeah the cags suck but for the money they are worth it if you are even just a bit mechanically enclined. Ive beat the shit out of my cag and its still doing fine. Blatas and Polinis of course are much nicer, will put out more power, and dont fall apart, but unless your getting into the sport for racing, they aint worth it. Base price for most of them is 700 and for that much you can get a used xr50 or crf 50 and spend a few hundred more and get brand new. I can spend hours on my crf and only about 30 min on the cag before my ass gets numb and it just gets boring.
As for mods, I would just get the APC valve cover breather and put that on. 10 bucks I think at Pep Boys. Thats what I did and it did work. You have to make it fit but it aint that hard. And for exhaust they are pretty pricey, just keep the stock and pull the packing out to increase some airflow. Also good for a little more power. And if you wanna get serious they you can start doing motor mods like you said. Go here. http://www.pocketbikeplanet.com/show...?threadid=8297

since this thread was started, i've been doing some research down under. when they first came on the scene we had the minmoto brand for $4000 in race rep. A few friends of friends started racing at a go kart track. they were good to 100k's an hour but weight restricted to 100kg's.Now there seem to be a few brands but all look similar, and the price is now around $1000.
how do you now which ones are better? without spending a fortune

Re: pocket bike mods?
I think mine will be good enough for me, we just race for fun, and for 230 bucks I dont expect a 60 mph bike or even close, the cops clocked my friends at 29 MPH, they still had some room to go though, they took off and passed the cops after about 130-150 feet so they strill pulled a bit after the cop and he said they got up to 22 the first time, so then they went to the very end of the parking lot, pusghed off the curb and floored it and they got to 29.
I have bought a couple things so far for it, when I got it, before it even hits the street its gonna be torn down, and most bolts lock tited, especially the ones I know come loose on my friends, and the ignition timing advanced 10 degrees, I was wondering though, you thibnk I shoudl wait til its broken in to install the advanced timing flywheel key?

sweet.
there's a guy down here that sells 4 models of the same bike 1: out of the crate 2:out of the crate but with all nots and bolts replaced and lock-tighted and with a 4th bearing (if that makes sense to you) 3:different bike water cooled but more horsies 4:same as first bike but 'factory worked' if you click on my previous link it'll take you there. tell me what you think. the third option looks stronger in the frame to me

i've been looking at the frames in the photos and the water cooled one 'looks' to be a stronger frame but is pricey $1800 in US dollars but thats aus dollars converted. if it comes direct to the us from the original importer then it will be cheaper.

Re: pocket bike mods?
The cags are fun for what they are... cheap. One day, I'd love to get a Polini or Blata, but since they each cost as much as my 600cc street bike, I think I can "live" with a $300 cag for a while. They are a complete blast, that's for sure. I rode a cag yesterday, and put my toe down on every turn. Good stuff!
As for breaking the motor in, do that before you make any mods. If you don't break it in, you may void any warranty it might have had.

Re: pocket bike mods?
doesnt have any warranty at al, and breaking it in before mods was for warranty right not life of bike? Ill still go easy with it being modded.
